Opportunity Bank Malawi (Opportunity Bank) was granted a full commercial banking license on March 21, 2002 and opened its first branch in Lilongwe on May 23, 2003. Opportunity Bank is a microfinance commercial bank, which targets the economically active but marginalized Malawians living in underserved areas including semi-urban and rural areas .The bank is consistently profitable, has over 300,000 clients, and has introduced a number of innovative products and services to the financial services sector in Malawi. The Bank’s vision is guided by the Opportunity International Network’s (OIN) commitment to a “Triple-Bottom Line”, which is comprised of large–scale outreach, profitability, and client transformation. OIN has a total asset base of over US$562m, 10,556 employees, operates in 29 countries worldwide, and serves more than 1.3 million clients. OIN is responsible for pioneering financial products that give people the tools they need to pull themselves out of poverty. Opportunity Bank’s approach is to provide wide access to multiple financial services (deprived, lending, insurance and payments systems) in deprived communities. Opportunity Bank's key focus is providing sustainable and flexible savings services.

Opportunity Bank offers a wide range of banking products and services, including deposits, loans and advances, domestic electronic payments, insurance, ATM services, Banki Mkhonde cash back service, Banki M’manja mobile phone banking and foreign exchange trading. These products and services are designed to enable Malawians to holistically transform their lives, develop a steady income, expand their businesses, provide for their families, and create jobs for their neighbours.
